Besides giving me the name of a handy dandy salve for soothing my poison ivy? Well...I'd like to talk about, hmmm...how I, or we, as SDA/Christians, are becoming increasingly faced with challenges such as "the worldlike" people/things around us? I've been feeling very strongly supported by the Lord re: my selections/discernment, etc. The Holy Spirit has given me stronger support and I see things more clearly. I've had the Lord working in my life for quite some time, but now I have strong muscle re: these convictions. It's all good. But, I have to tell you, my positive, Christ-like choices (often made in quiet, and I do not flash them around to judge others, quite the opposite, actually), do make me appear odd to the general folk, and I catch a lot of criticism from family, friends, etc. that my "choices/stances" are too peculiar. I consider it all o.k. b/c I know I'm led by the Holy Spirit, but it still can be tough b/c criticisms are going to happen, especially in "end times". How wonderful it is when the Lord gives you the strength to make such convictions and then to face such criticisms for those. It is still somewhat saddening, b/c it drives a hard line between those loved ones, co-workers, neighbors, etc. of this world, and those of us who follow Christ in their hearts and desires. It's a blessing to have the Holy Spirit guiding me, but it does lead to an understanding that "others who believe differently choose to react negatively, or not at all". Phew, a lot said. Sorry. Do you all get what I'm trying to explain? I guess I'm just noticing a lot that in the past 6 mos. or so, my convictions and discernments are God-solid, and I am fine with that, and quietly comfortable in Him, but others do not support my quiet choices. They tend to minimize the worldly effect and whose ugly hand is behind the battles...Guess what I'm trying to say is that I feel the Holy Spirit beside me, all time, so strongly, and it seems like a spotlight or flashlight is brightly displaying the right paths, and other people seem to want to minimize/rationalize the impact of the worldly matters affecting us in our daily lives, homes, etc. Tag, you're it if you have any thoughts... ;-)

Willie, you have outdone yourself. Great job. Thanks for making this online place for us to talk.

I have a question for everyone. I noticed the fasting poll and saw that about 50% of those responding said they needed more information.

I have tried to give some information on fasting through the pastor's page. And will continue to do so. Is there something specific that you might want to know.

Please respond anonymously if you like. But I am interested in your responses.

thanks,dma

Blog on Family!

Mr. Smith said...

Robin, First let me tell you and your family have a special place in my families worship time everyday. By the way, I love your name(that's my Mom's 1st name). Anyway, good stuff! That's how you blog! Can you tell its football season. That shows that the Holy Spirit really is working in your life, when you can sense that sometimes, somethings, just aren't, so to speak "Kosher"(I love the Jewish culture). I know in my day to day walk with The Spirit, I come across many things that have me biting my lower lip until it bleeds(not literally). Some people are probablly are thinking he says what on his mind. If only they knew how I really felt. And that's not me saying or wanting to say those things, thats my coviction, my stronghold, my relationship with the Spririt that tells me what level I should approach a situation. Say for instance, today after reading an article in the Adventist World, I have some questions about our Sabbath worship. I have always had concerns since we have adopted other styles of worship, but the Holy Spirit said wait, He'll send you an answer. And look a publish article for all to see! I had to say nothing! I tell my wife this all the time, "We gotta good team. God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, My wife and I, Mari, and soon another little one of Gods miracles. We can't loose?" So regardless of how someone else may feel about my team, and how we call the plays, its more important on how we execute the play that brings results. Wow I just read that last part! I love me some football. Pray for the Giants, I mean my team, I mean my family. This going to be a long season.

Pastor, We've talked about the date and method but I don't think we have provided the spiritual/biblical context. Many may know, some may not.

I would also like to see us discuss more around the "day in the life" of the 21 days. I'm assuming that we will be fasting for something particular each day, with scripture and maybe even a devotional thought for each day. If so, I would like to see the outline for the 21-days.

Lastly, I'm assuming that we are expecting some result at the end of the fast. It would be good to hear that or hear that the fast is preparing us for X, Y or Z.

The Bottom line is we have to market this. I think we have been presented with the what and I would like to see the how (will this be different from and individual fast and how will we conduct the fast) and the why.

Also the sabbath shouldn't define who you are but it is a BIG part of who you are. Ask around, some people have been converted when presented with the undeniable truth of God's sabbath and your health message. The problem is that some just know the sabbath and food and don't know how to make Jesus be the point of it all. Why don't churches preach about the sabbath and prophecy anymore? These are the last days right? The sabbath is what will be a challenge for all of us in the end right? People won't know it if we don't teach them. Your church used to equip people with a knowledge of prophecy. I liked the fact that at your church wasn't just entertaining, it was a place where you could go and learn and be challenged by God's word.Your church isn't like everyone else, your church seems to be made up of people who I can walk right up to after not being there for a while and fit right in.It doesn't matter how nice my car is, how expensive my suit is, how big my house is, when I'm there. I would like to encourage you because as always Satan is willing to seek and destroy God's work. That being sad your church will always be under attack or criticized. Didn't Jesus get treated the same way? So will His children. These are the last days and people need to know it, Christ is soon to come and people need to know it, prophecy and scripture reveal it to us and people need to know it, the sabbath and God's commandments need to be obeyed and people need to know it. How about fasting for those things, how about fasting for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. BL is a place where I can come to worship and to learn, where religion isn't a means for me to get the things that I want from the world, and where religion isn't watered down and marketed and that means a lot to me.

I have more family means that you love support and accept someone unconditionally. I saw at your church the deacons rolling a a guy around in a wheel chair and even taking him to the bathroom. I saw young folks being considerate to the older members. I saw a guy there praising the Lord who looked like he was a disciple or something. I saw people embraced who you could tell had their own issues. I saw a true blend of people at your church. There was even a white guy preaching. I saw people mingling and tending to each other. THATS FAMILY.

Anonymous, your comments really touched me! Thanks for taking the time to share. One of the things that really stuck a cord with me is around fasting and praying for the Holy Spirit. We are certainly living in the last days and we NEED the HS to do what God would have us to do. During this fast, along with everything else, I'm going to be praying that BL get's on the same page and receives an outpouring of his spirit!

Is our Church suppose to be children sensative? Do we include them in the 11:oo Divine Worship? If so, how?

Check this article out to see how a church leader views our current crisis in the Adventist Church.

By the way, you guys blog great! Get more involved with it. We really can understand more of the church views on these compelling topics!

demarrco and BL family: i think some of you may know me well enough to get the idea that i am a strong advocate for the kids/youth in our community, church, and world. this article you referred us to was interesting, and a good opening for discussion. i have some thoughts on children in the service, involving them, not excluding them, etc. get comfy, this is a looong one.

1.youth day worship service...amen amen amen !! i think it's a wonderful day for the children on many levels. i would like to see more advanced planning so the kids are working together as a team to pull together a cohesive worship service and so they feel comfortable with what they are taking on. i have enjoyed the past few youth day worship services, and would like to see them continue. but, again, with more advanced planning. not knocking anyone, just a suggestion. youth day at BL is one of my favorite "special worship services".

2. i don't believe children should be delivering children's story to their peers, unless on youth day. no offense and i certainly don't mean to harshly admonish anyone. it's just my thought that came up as i read the article. i adore morgan, and i am so glad she has the desire and the heart to want to be involved, but i have a concern with children in an "advisory/teaching" role to their peers, unless in a very "round table type" (or similar) format, where there is no "superiority". not that morgan has displayed that, NOT AT ALL. but in my opinion it may leave the OTHER children feeling "less" than equal. do you get my concern on this?

3. children's chorus...where is it in our church? i was surprised that BL doesn't have a children's chorus. doesn't have to be a big-todo presentation, just a group of children, practicing, singing, and sharing in praise for the church. i know there has been some talk of it, and i'd really like to see it become a REGULAR part of our music/praise team ministry. even if it were a sharing of praise through a musical instrument played. a lot of our children have musical talent as well. too bad i can't sing worth a lick. as a matter of fact, my children tell me "no mom, please, just stop." ;-o) siiigh. oh well, can't have all the gifts we want, right?

4. children's pastoral prayer...you know, it'd be great to have the children participate in one prayer each worship service. i think it's important. they have wonderful things to say, pray for, and share, and it would include them. why not for one prayer, no harm?? i'm sure we could fit it in or take one of the elder/pastor prayer moments on the bulletin, and insert with a child/youth leading in prayer. maybe more suited for a teen...yes? to guide the younger ones, in how to pray/lead during worship service, reverently.

5. tithe evevelopes...reallllly surprised that BL doesn't have children's tithe envelopes. would be great to have. i'd even purchase them as a "donation". yeah, the current envelope "works". gotta tell you though, i've never been to a church that does not encourage tithing through kid-friendly envelopes. i understand that the current envelopes are suitable, and kids can become capable of using them. but i have a strong feeling that the children's tithing would increase, with a sense of honor of commitment for the Lord, if children's envelopes are used. we often say: let kids be kids as long as they can, well, what's the harm in using kid-friendly envelopes? i bet they would understand more where their tithe is allocated, and be more apt to tithe regularly. o.k., plus it's a special "kid thing only" and why not allow them special kid things even in church?

6. formal training for selected jr. deacon/esses...i am really for this. it should be somewhat a part of grooming for the Lord's work as they grow in age, and maturity. it gives the children a sense of "ownership" and belonging in the church as body, family, and a place of worship. i know there has been talk of it, and i'm looking forward to seeing a training program of some sorts. i do understand that the elders, deacons, etc. are stretched thin as it is. so please understand that i'm not trying to "add on" or criticize the lacking. believe me, i am fully supportive of the elders/deacons/etc. as they have amazingly difficult and time consuming jobs as is. i thank you.

7. testimony/praise/requests: encourage a separate moment for children to speak, give, offer, or request..AFTER the adults share, speak, make prayer requests. doesn't have to take long, but it does make their concerns, prayers, praises, recognized specially, and validate them. just two children maximum for each: a) praise/testimony and b) prayer request.

a comment: certain sermons are given that are easy to follow in relative points along the way (not saved for a huge tying it all in point at the end), and "easy, common language" is used(not old english, yet not slang/urban speak). it's a blessing that many times, on the way home my children ALWAYS comment with enthusiasm, praise, excitement, have questions, share their thoughts, etc. on the sermon they just heard. and we often reflect on the sermon throughout the week, as life falls into examples of the past sermon. to break it down: they understood the sermon. AMEN. although i get the fact that kids may not absorb, understand all of the sermon's message, all of the time. that's o.k. and will happen. but still, in my opinion, a lot is understood when there is a mixed use of reaching, personal sharing, today's language, and tying it in with actual bible stories and biblical persons. somehow it is easier, more enjoyable, and most important, it reaches them. without losing the adults. bros.coleman and dreher seem to have a gift of connecting with many BL church go'ers throughout the age/walk in life/background spectrum, and, yes, even with the children.

in conclusion, i think it is critical that BL use the talents/gifts of our children to teach/guide/encourage them in their ministry. whether it be through quick, select, well planned segments in the service, or separate youth day service. however the Lord directs us.

i'm tired, i'm rambling. sorry. but you all get my drift. i hope i didn't offend. truly. i am just passionate about the children in our church family, and i have so many goals for them, for our church, and for my family.

p.s. if you need my help w/ any suggestions or actions, i will do what i can. i'm not the type of person that suggests w/o offering to assist in some way.

blessings to you all. with love in Him.

Pastor Arrington mentioned an article in "Ministry, International Journal for Pastors," on "Multichurch Pastoring and the Family." After reading the article myself, I found that it was very compelling to see that some Pastors now have even more than THREE church's to Pastor. With this growing need for the Word of God, and the alarming amount of sin in our church's, why aren't the Adventist producing more Pastors, to keep up with the growth of new congregations? Is it finacial? Is it spiritual? Is it criticism Pastors face from the congregation? Are we just not putting enough effort in higher education towards Pastorial leadership? What can we do now to kind of help the church produce more leaders with its rapid congregational growth? I'm going to casually speak to Willie E. Hucks, Assistant editor of the magazine on what he thinks we can do, before I write my response. I know some of you guys are fasting from the internet(I was too, for a week), So this will remain on the BLOG. Feel free to respond at a later date.

Hi, I am Owen, I visited you church a few times in the past 2005. Never will I forget the love shown to me there. I wish that you were here things are so crazy here. The people in your church have so much of Christ's love and character. I could go on for ever but if I ever get back to Maryland you can be sure I will visit with you all again.

Oh, Pastor Do you still use the Power Bible program. I just got a new Power Bible in last week; it is a great program...

Oh and for the full compare look at Heb 4:8 then read Heb chap 3 to chap 4:10, GOD "Jesus did not give us a new day..... The Sabbath is eternal if Jesus gave us a new day… He would have told us… oh the KJV is the only bible that shares this truth... All others say He gave us a new day…

I wish you all the best....
